My Husband Is Stingy With His Money!

My husband is so stingy with his money! We been together ten years, during which time we built a house. He has another house that he built before me and his 30 plus year old son lives there. The problem is my husband feels no financial responsibility for me. He has left all money & property to his son, who can’t ever seem to take care of himself financially. We signed a prenuptial agreement when we married which basically meant we were to keep all our finances separate. The house that “WE” built is in his name only and as I understand it, would go to his son if he were to die, leaving me homeless! I worked and paid my own way and even helped him with his bills until I got sick in 2004, lost my job and health insurance. My husband has health insurance…I do not. Am I wrong for feeling like things are wrong here? I love my husband, he can be very kind in many ways, except when it comes to MONEY! My son thinks I should leave him, since I have no financial future with my husband.

You need to have a discussion with him that the house needs to be in both your names, simply because you’ll have no place to live if anything happens to him. His son already has a house. You also need to get health insurance. Are you eligible for Medicare? Do you have a will? A trust? You need to address these issues with your husband and have him understand that its important that these planning issues that involve both of your futures be taken care of. If he is insensitive to your needs then I question the marriage and your son may be right.
