I am very interested in a recently widowed man (about six months) we are mutually attracted to each other. Would it be okay if I would call him and ask him out on a casual date? He seems ready to date but I’m not really sure.

Absolutely. You’ll never know his real state of mind or his feelings for you unless you spend more time with him. He might welcome the opportunity. In any event you feel a desire to go out with him so go with your feelings and see how things turn out. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
